Tabby Cats Live @ Rock n Roll, Milan, 1 Feb. 2008

They might not have recorded their first demo yet, they might not have a myspace… but trust me, these guys can rock!

Tabby Cats are a young band hitting the road from Milan, Italy, influenced mainly by band such as Motley Cr¸e, Kiss, WASP, Ozzy Osborne, Guns n Roses to get to more modern CrashdÔet and Hardcore Superstar. Guitar player Matt and drummer Ken joined forces in mid February 2007, since they has been wanting to play together already for some time. They asked bass player Freddy (who was at the time a drummer) to joined them, and last but not least, Matt simply gave communication to Eric that he was the Cats singer. He just was waiting for it, and so, the band was born. They immediately start rehearsing, and as soon as the day after, already a gig was played for close friends. These guys just want it all… and they want it now, as someone once said!

Rock n Roll show was like playing at home for the band. The small crowd (that nonetheless packed the small club) was mainly made of friends, but also had a nice number of people who just trusted the pub as a place where to get nice atmosphere and live music.

And so it was.

The four guys hit the stage with strength and energy, with real rockers attitude and style. As some might be shocked by the extremely 80es style shown by the band, as long as they touched their instruments even the more sceptical stop bothering, as they showed how the music counts more over the still very accurate look.

They opened with an own tune, Street Life, followed by the very catchy Mr. Lover, also a Tabby song. Eric cheered with the crowd like an experienced front man, getting the full attention also of the bartenders over the small stage. Next track was a classic, Crazy Train (I don’t really think we need to say who wrote it, do I?), very well presented, where Matt could show his not  under valuable skills on guitar (even playing suspended by Eric who lifted him for one leg :P).

The new tune Hard Hard Love was next, and its chorus hit everyone head immediately, getting all the crowd to sing along.

Out of Control, Live Wire and The Long Trip (up-to-day the only ballad of the band) came next, and then came the hymn of the band, their trademark, the self-celebrating Tabby Cats, probably the most well-written song of the band… so catchy that even few days after the gig I found myself humming “We are Tabby Cats” in the middle of the street!

It was now time for the last song, a mind blowing Jailhouse Rock, a song that always hits the right spot. As soon as the song ended, though, the public started cheering so loud that our alley cats got back on stage to perform two more songs, Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll by Rainbow and Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones.

During the last tune friends and random people joined the band onstage, who kept on exchanging instruments just to increase our pleasure!

All in all a very nice and entertaining gig, where these kittens showed they have jaws and can use them. They are on the right way, and with a little luck, they’ll go far, if they just keep their feet solidly grounded to earth.
