After seeing W.A.S.P. at Metalway Festival in Spain, I decided to see them again
in Pinarella di Cervia, Italy. Long, long trip to reach the location, but it was
worth it. This time, the fact that the band was playing for their very own fans,
and not for a random festival crowd seemed to bring much more energy to the
members, they all seemed to be more relaxed. I had the chance to see the show
from the first row (right in front of bassist Mike Duda and a couple of metres
away from the singer Blackie Lawless). The venue was very small, but full of
fans, who were totally impatient to show their love to the band. After the first
two notes, the madness began: people pushing and pulling here, there and
everywhere, and the whole place was hot as hell.

The setlist was full of classics, as usual: from Wild Child to I Wanna Be
Somebody and Widowmaker. Maybe I would have preferred to hear something more
from the latest albums, too, but the show was so great that it was difficult to
have something to complain about. Blackie’s voice sounded better than ever, same
for the instrumental parts. As promised by the band, anyway, they didn’t play
Animal (F**k Like A Beast), despite the requests of the public. Not that I
missed that one so much. Instead, we had an encore with the beautiful Heaven’s
Hung In Black from
Dominator, the last album, and the classic Blind In Texas. A great conclusion
for one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
