In the current -so tired- numetal scene, where probably we find to much commercial and simplistic bands, sometimes we could hit on bands that really deserve to be listened. One of this is sure Backjumper, maybe not so famous, but these guys have all the right elements to become so!
In fact, they present us a really good crossover, made mixing heavy/thrash guitars riffs, funky basses, a nice and full-bodied drums pedestal, all accompanied by vocal lines that, starting with rap parts, slow down in a pestering scream voice, giving to the band his metal core component. And, be sure of this, it is one of the most significant voice I’ve ever heard in the metal situation.
However, Backjumper have registered an album, called ‘trust no 1’ and really good produced. This length is actually expressive not only for the music, but also for the lyrics, that are so rhythmical, so fresh, but most important thing, so REAL, talking about personal events but also social problems. Who wouldn't identify themselves in "All that remains" lyrics? Or, why not, in ‘sadist-faction’ lyrics!!
However, let’s start analyzing the work that will remind us Rage against the machine and earlier limp bizkit.
A funny intro take us to the first track, ‘life sponsored by’ ,much representative, that starts with a pleasantly kneaded riff, followed by a singing so pissed and aggressive to remark the relevance of the lyrics.
With a rap-sang part that you would like to learn rote, the bittersweet ‘All That Remains’ finds his exploit in the final part, with the phrase ‘I’M GONNA TRUST NO 1!’. A track that strictly remind us Rage against the Machine.
Let’s go on with the chasing ‘49% human’ and his funny refrain. So fast at the beginning, with his riveting drums, that song becomes cadenced at the end, to open the way for the following aggressive track,’ sadist-faction’, in which paCMan –the singer- gives us the best of himself .in fact he keeps his voice screaming for almost all the song.
Then it’s the time for ‘gravity ‘, with its pleasant and melancholic intro, and the last episode of the album, ‘unsafe’, a really groove track. These two songs, smart and meaningful about the lyrics, are perfect to close a work of whose these guys could be more than proud. A length that takes something innovative and significant in the nu-metal scene, and worth to be remembered. Waiting for new stuff guys!
