31.10.2007 : MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE: 'Taekwondo Changed My Life'

MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine (photo) says that his life has changed for the better mainly thanks to taekwondo.

"Taekwondo is a great discipline. For me, it was one of the things that changed my life," Mustaine said in a recent interview. "It (taekwondo) helped me to eliminate a bad lifestyle of drug and alcoholism. It helped me to believe inside of myself and find the strength inside of myself that I never knew that I possessed."

Mustaine made the remarks at the Grand InterContinental Hotel in Seoul on October 27, 2007, shortly after he received a certificate of appointment as the WTF's Goodwill Ambassador of the World in a ceremony.

"Framing Armageddon - Something Wicked Part 1" (cover artwork) expands the "Something Wicked" storyline first introduced in the trilogy of the same name appearing on the 1998 release, "Something Wicked This way Comes". "Framing Armageddon" will be followed in February/March 2008 by the band's ninth full-length studio release, tentatively titled "Revelation Abomination - Something Wicked Part 2" , continuing where "Framing Armageddon" leaves off.

I will continue making music with the name Dreamlike Horror in the future, i will probably be recruiting a few new musicians so that we can take the band live out on tour, as this has always been my wish.

Legendary thrash metal band OVERKILL has set "Immortalis" as the title of its new album, due this fall via Bodog Music. The group's collaboration with Bodog reunites OVERKILL with Jonny and Marsha Zazula, previous owners of Megaforce Records, the label responsible for putting metal on the map and bringing OVERKILL's New Jersey thrash metal to the world. The Zazulas are now a part of the Bodog Music team in the United States.

"Whoever said you can't go home again?" says OVERKILL frontman Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth. "Well, whoever it was, they were wrong, as this reunites OVERKILL with their first and biggest supporters. Here we come — again!"

"I went to meet up with OVERKILL at their recent sold out show in New York City and they were better than ever," says Jonny Zazula. "They're heavy as hell and I loved it."

Since forming in 1980, OVERKILL has put out over 20 albums. Despite various lineup changes, the band has never gone on hiatus and has continued to stay true to the metal genre it helped create. With Megaforce Records and their management company, CraZed Management, the Zazulas were responsible for the early careers of such bands as METALLICA, ANTHRAX and MINISTRY, among many others.

"Now, as it was 20 years ago when we signed OVERKILL, I continue to have the utmost respect for what they have done," Marsha Zazula says.

The upcoming album and corresponding East Coast tour will feature OVERKILL's latest lineup, which along with Ellsworth, includes original bassist D.D. Verni, guitarists Derek "The Skull" Tailer and Dave Linsk, as well as the newest member to join the band, drummer Ron Lipnicki.

Ellsworth says Lipnicki "adds a new dimension of brutality to a proven formula. I was knocked on my ass by his talent. We look forward to debuting him on our upcoming Bodog Music release."

OVERKILL released three albums on Megaforce Records before making the jump to Atlantic Records where a string of critically lauded albums, including 1991's quintessential "Horroscope", solidified OVERKILL as one of the best metal bands of all time. In the past few years, the band has released such gems as "Killbox 13" (2003) and "ReliXIV" (2005).

British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN will play their only German show of 2008 at next year's Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31 - August 2, 2008 in Wacken, Germany. IRON MAIDEN is expected to perform a set focusing on the "Early Days Part 2" period, featuring classic songs like "Powerslave", "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son".

Halford's Metal God Entertainment recently signed Canadian and Australian/New Zealand distribution deals with Fusion 3 and Riot! Entertainment, respectively. The first release under the agreement will be "Metal God Essentials - Volume 1", which is due in July.

"Metal God Essentials - Volume 1" features thirteen tracks from Rob Halford's FIGHT and HALFORD solo releases. The HALFORD band's first new songs in more than four years, "Forgotten Generation" and "Drop Out", are also featured, as is an exclusive 2007 remix from producer Attie Bauw, "Resistance Canadian Mix".

Metal God Entertainment will also produce three new box sets for fall 2007/early 2008 release.

The FIGHT and HALFORD box sets will feature a 5.1 DVD documentary and live concert performance, remastered audio releases, expanded booklet, rare and unreleased photos and liner notes.

On the fifth anniversary of his passing, Guitar World celebrates death metal’s pioneer and spiritual guide in: Lust for Life.” Now, today, on Chuck’s 40th birthday, we have GW’s recent tribute article to Chuck published on EW (thanks Jeff & Chris).

So we managed to have something special again on a very special day, as always. And as a fan said in EW’s final guestbook: “Chuck Schuldiner was a TRUE artist. His spirit is undying.
