Samir: How are you doing?

Doing great, how are you?

Samir:Present yourself to the audience.

I’m Dory, founder and the guitarist of Eternal Gray.

Samir: How come you named the band "eternal gray"?

The name Eternal Gray meant for saying that there’s nothing which is only black or whit. Nothing is total, therefore Eternal Gray means the middle of everything.

Samir:can you give me a small history of your band

Eternal Gray members first met as fill-ins in for the band "BETRAYER",they were known from previous bands from north and central Israel and brought together to perform with the lead vocalist Tomas Lindberg (former AT THE GATES) in the summer of 1999. Eventually the band BETRAYER separated in the summer of 2001, in a final farewell concert with ROTTING CHRIST. During this show the separation was announced, as was announced that the rest of the band will stay together as ETERNAL GRAY.
As ETERNAL GRAY they decided to record their debut album in the best and most professional manner, so they flew to Sweden to record it at the renowned Abyss studios, with Tommy Tagtgren as their sound engineer.
Together with "button master" Tommy Tagtgren, their album titled "KINDLESS" achieved stunning sound quality. The title was chosen to describe the album, meaning two things: first "kind-less" as in not very kind (or simply brutal), and second was "kind-less" as a unique album which has no kind like itself. Kindless was released under Raven Music Israel, distributed in Europe by Listenable records & The End records in the U.S, Canada etc'.

Samir:Are you religious?

No we aren’t religious.

Samir: Could you tell us more about the israelien scene?

The Israeli scene is quite developed. There are many bands here which are pretty good in terms of the worldwide metal scene. You probably have heard those names: Orphaned Land, Salem, Betzefer and so on. There are many more bands which u can find about them on Metal Archives website.

The Israeli audiences are very supportive and most of our gigs here are full with hundreds of metalheads. Also many bands from abroad came to visit here and some of them even says that the Israeli crowd is the most warm and supportive they ever seen.

Samir: Do you have any idea about metal scene in Morocco?

Actually I have no idea of any metal scene, not only in Morocco. I tend not to be involved so much in the scene itself, but rather stay concentrated in writing my music. On and on I get CDs from bands around the world and some of them are really good. However, I never found myself “investigating” where they are coming from. As long as the music is good, it doesn’t really matters for me.

Samir: do you see there as being a difference between commercial metal bands and underground metal?

Yes of course there’s a difference though it doesn’t mean that 1 is good and 2 isn’t.Everybody should do whatever is right for themselves and not categorize they deeds. If I feel like playing something softer than what I play now, I will. As well as if I feel like playing brutal.

Samir: Where do you see "Eternal Gray" going in the next few years, 5 or even 10 years?

Eternal Gray is an engine, a very strong one. I rather talk with you guys again in 5 years than blabbing about what might happen. One thing I can assure you: I will do my best to keep providing you the most excellent music I’m able to compose. Whether you like it or not – that would tell us when we’ll be in 5\10 years from now.

Samir:What's your opinion about nowadays Death metal?

To be honest – I think there’s too many shit out there. People seem to be losing their ears; otherwise 95% of the releases nowadays wouldn’t be out whatsoever.

What I said now refers to bands and labels as well.

Samir:Let's talk about your songwriting .what's the kinds of your lyrics?

Usually we describe a psycho reality and the one who’s experiencing it. For example – in the song Inflicting Pain we are talking about a serial killer which isn’t even aware of his killing-sprees. “waking up screaming, the desire to die. Instead of killing myself, I'm searching pain and strife”.

People in this world lost any sense of logic, compassion and forgot how to actually live. We aren’t fighting that, but describing how it is. It is sick, psycho and twisted.

Samir:How is everything going with your album "Kindless"?

5000 “Kindless” copies worldwide will tell that.

Samir:what bands do you listen to? Do you enjoy industrial bands?

My musical taste isn’t limited to anything. I listen to whatever sounds good to me. Pink Floyd is the most significant band for me.

Samir:If you could tour the world with any band, who would it be ?

I don’t actually care; it doesn’t matter as long as we will get on stage and share our energies with the audiences.

Samir: Do we have to wait a long time for the next eternal gray album?

In order to provide you the best product we can’t be dictated to any schedule, timing or rule which tells us how and when an album should be ready. Eternal Gray are creative enough bring u all the best we can, under no conditions. When you create, you never think about the time it takes. You only think and listen to how it sounds like, no matter when and what time is it now.

Samir: How would you define your style of music?

Our music is definitely Metal. It has a various styles in it, a thing which to my ears makes it more interesting to listen to. I would call it Dark Death Metal. Dark – as for the atmosphere our music reflects, for example - we never use “sweet” melodies. And Death Metal – as we are using many elements which the listener can relate to this kind of music.

The best way to find out how it is – is simply listen to it.

Samir: if you 'll be invited to playing here in morocco, do you accepte about this invitation?

I can tell you one thing – we would love to play in Morocco, to meet your culture and introduce you to ours. It would be more than great to use the music as a bridge, a bridge to overcome what the ignorant politicians can’t.

Samir:What was the favorite band you toured with?

I would be able to tell you that in a year or two, after we’ll have the opportunity to tour.

Samir:In your music I hear a lot of old Morbid angel influences. so what do you think about that ?

That’s the beauty in Eternal Gray’s music. You hear Morbid Angel, others hears Nevermore and others hears Meshuggah. You ask me what do I think about that? I think it’s amazing and a really great thing to have, a varied feelings and sympathy of whom ever listens to our music.

Samir: Do the members of the band play in other projects?

All of us are active in some projects. I hope you will hear about some of them soon.

Samir: What about your next real plans? Many tours?

Of course, tours will be a part of it though not the major one. Our main plan is keep writing music and give the best for the audience.

Samir: Any advise to musicians or songwriters?

Satisfaction with what you are writing is one of the most important things to have. Music and lyrics are a very wide terms in which most of the time are individual. My advise is to keep trying, keep composing and not be dictated to any “rule”.

Samir: How do you feel about downloading music?

Personally I don’t, though I see no reason why not to. When I like a band, I also want to fully experience what they meant to say by their music; therefore the cd + its booklet are important as well.

Samir: do you believe in "good" and "evil"?

Is there anyone who doesn’t?

Samir: Tell us something about your gigs. What was the best live experience?

There were many. Each show is different and has another vibe. The most powerful thing is to feel the energies which come from the crowd, to see it. it’s the most powerful and driven thing.

Samir: Any final comments?

All of us should keep follow our hearts and keep our common sense alive.

Samir: Thanks a lot for your time in answering these questions.

Thank you very much; we hope to walk soon on this musical bridge to Morocco.
