Samir :Hi ! Everything is ok with the band ?
Hi Samir. Yeah, we’re pretty busy doing shows back home and a tour coming up so
we got our hands busy.
Samir : Could you please make a short introduction
of your band to those readers of ours who are not familiar with your band?
We’re an Old Old-School Death Metal band, formed in 1988 and hailing from the
Island Gotland in the Baltic sea. Done about seven albums and still keeping it
heavy and brutal!
Samir : Let us Talk about "As Rapture Comes".How
much time did you spend in the studio to record the album?
Hard to say but an estimate about 3 weeks or so wouldn’t be totally out of line.
Samir : Did something worth telling happen or did
they just go as planned?
We got drunk a couple of times during the recording and we made Ludvika by night
during the mixing session but that’s not the kind of stuff you want in print…
Samir : Why did you choose "As Rapture Comes" for
the title of that album ?
It was Pelle, our previous drummer, who came up with it during a tour.
Samir : Can you tell me more about "Into The Grave "? What is your feeling about
it?
It was great recording it ’cause it was our first album and really cool making
it in the already legendary Sunlight. We had a shitload of songs ready and if I
remember correctly we had a hard time deciding which ones to record for the
album. The album still sells and I’m amazed that people still like it and talk
about it.
Samir : What were some early bands you were into?
Are you still into the today? Any early rare stuff you have in your collection?
I’ve been ito a shitload of bands! In the early days I listened to Celtic Frost,
Witchfinder General, Slayer, Trouble, Mercyful Fate, Living Death, Venom,
Destruction and loads of Thrash, Doom , Speed and Death metal bands. Still into
it today! Nothing really rare since I sold my first Bathory album, the one with
the yellow goat, a long time ago to buy some booze. If I would have realized
that it’s a rare and fucking expensive album I would probably stayed sober that
weekend.
Samir : What was the favorite band you toured with?
Exodus!
Samir : How far would you like to go with Grave ?
I’d love to go all the way but it’s hard if you don’t go commercial or
Gothenburg style.
Samir : What can you tell us about 'Fiendish Regression '? How did you develop
the songs, what inspired you?
Just sheer brutal sickness! We wanted to do a Grave album. No producers or
technicians telling us what to do or not to do. We did it ourself wit just one
goal, to make a real Grave album. Songs wrote themselves and much of the
material came up on rehearsals and that’s one reason that the whole band is
credited on the album.
Samir : What's your best memory with the band?
Being drunk with my buddies…
Samir : we hear also there's a new drummer .how has it been touring with new
drummer ?
He’s the coolest guy around and really into the scene. Love him!
Samir : And what happened to the old drummer ?
He has some other project and he likes to sit at home and drink coffee with his
family. Met him at the last gig and I scented some regret…
Samir : What can you tell us about the recordings? How did you manage to keep
again that typical Grave sound?
It’s all in the fingers as they say…
Samir : What are your biggest sources of
inspiration when you write the lyrics?and What were your musical favourites ?
That’s a question for Ola but I know he’s inspired a lot by vampire and horror
flicks. Black Sabbath, Slayer, Judas Priest and thousands more…
Samir : which bands were or are of influence?
Slayer, Death, Destruction I guess in the early days but know we listen to all
kinds of shit. Got into som good old Black Metal recently in form of Craft from
Sweden and Darkthrone and Carpathian Forest of Norway.
Samir : What are the future plans for the band?
Go on tour and make a new album and DVD for our 20:th Year Anniversary.
Samir : If you 'll be invited to playing here in morocco, do you accepte about
this invitation?
Hell Yeah!
Samir : Do the members of the band play in other projects?
Yes, there are some project going on but I guess that it’s Ronnie, our new
drummer who’s got the most serious things going.
Samir : last message for the readers?
Stay Metal, support the scene and go to the shows!
Samir : Thanks once again for answering my questions! I wish you and Grave the
best of luck in the future .
Thanks a lot and take care.
