Samir: Hi! Thank you very much for taking the time to do this interview with me!
Not a problem.
Samir: What was the main reason for you to become a musician?
I had too many ideas and urges floating in my noggin, and felt I had something to offer musically and a natural knack for it.
Samir: Why did you choose "Sleep Terror" as a name for your band?
It really stuck at first and had an edge to it. Right now it has gotten watered down to an extent with all these ''terror'' bands coming out. But I still identify with it and it has its stamp.
Samir: Tell us more about the recording of "ProbingTranquility".where did you record it? What is your feeling about it?
Home on a digital recorder/mixing program. Of course I'm not happy with itas the production is thin and virtually had no budget. I view it more like afull length ''demo'' rather than a real album, the real stuff is only tocome.
Samir: From where else do you draw inspiration "musically" and
"personally"?
Many things, emotions and places.
Samir: how did u improve as a guitarist ?
Hmm. Lots and lots of practice perhaps.
Samir: what other things you love to do other than music ?
Cook, surf the net, work occasionally, drink coffee, read.
Samir: what is the most thing you feel proud of, and why?
Probably doing our first U.S. tour. I booked the majority of it and handled all the business and lots of the driving. It felt incredible to create something for yourself in that short of time and come home with enough money and a bunch of cool stories and memories to speak of.
Samir: Can you give our readers a more detailed profile of what your
Music sounds like?
Imagine Naked City and Cryptopsy having a child, and the child is born and molested by the ghost of James Brown.
Samir: How was this new cd made compared to previous ones? And how did you develop the songs?
Most of the songs were just rerecorded, a few new ones. That explains why it was released so fast after the two EPs before it.
Samir: Do you have any new songs written?
A few actually.
Samir: What was your most memorable moment on stage?
Probably in San Diego when we played 'Autoerotic Spy' and hordes of brute metalheads yelling ''My Sharona!'' when the riff towards the end belted in. Gotta love that.
Samir: how long would you keep up with sleepterror ?
Until my heart tells me otherwise.
Samir: What's your best memory with the band?
Practicing in the warehouse district of Seattle almost everyday and just being young and active musically and retaining a lot of respect for what we do.
Samir: What is the next step for you and the band?
Rehearse old songs, write new ones, record a real well-produced album with drums and hit the road all around the map.
Samir: When you are dead and gone, what is the most thing you want to be remembered for as a person?
Besides any unique talents or characteristics, most importantly my heart and level of patience and kindness. Being an entertainer (as much as I hate that word), its easy to get a lot of trash-talkers on the internet who love to jump to conclusions about you. It's the price you pay for any level of fame or notoriety. All of our real friends and family, as well as good-hearted fans know who we are and that's all that should be cared about in the end.
Samir: Are you involved in any other band/project besides SleepTerror?
I do have a solo project in the works (by my actual name) that is a soft rock/pop endeavour with more commercially-viable and structured songs.
Samir: What can you possibly say about our world with all these wars nowadays?
I don't ever see it getting better. Everyone is in life for themselves, and greed is the basis of most if not all evils. President Bush is the reason why humanity will never stand a chance, let alone this country. We are fucked, and the wars could end tomorrow and we still have to face the fact of global warming, air pollution, mass-animal suffering and exploitation, and babies being born to reckless parents.
Samir: Give me your opinion about these bands:
Vile :Loved the Stench album and had a great time touring with them.
Sleep terror: Sucks.
Testament:I got pulled over by two cop cars at 3 in the morning once listening to them.
Death : Individual Thought Patterns.
Cynic : Never got into them, but a lot of people seem to bring them up to me.
Samir : What are the principal differences between your first album, and the music of the new one?
The music has always progressed heavily between the eps and the newer release and newer songs. Heavily heavily.
Samir : What is your favorite guitar technique.? and what guitar technique that you feel you need to work on the most?
I need to work on everything as a guitarist. I've gotten quite lazy ever since I turned 16 more than I wish. I still have so much more to do, itscrazy to even think about.
Samir : Any last comments to the fans and readers?
Hope to see you all on the road soon, and thank you for the endless support.
Samir : Thank you so much for agreeing to talk with us for this
interview!
I wish you good luck in all your plans.
Thank you much, take care.
