Samir: Hello ! how are you
doing today?

Martin:
Hey... I'm doing quite fine thank you. The usual shit but overall ok!
Samir: Can you tell us who are
the members of your band and what's the story of your band?
Martin:
The story of the band is very long as we started out in 1993. But the story is
pretty much the same as most bands. Band members coming and going - recordings,
shows and so on. There is an extended biography on our website that goes into
great detail and if I had to say it all it would take the rest of the day.
Anyway... The present members are: Nicholas (drums) since 1993, Roar (guitar)
since 2001 and me singing and playing the bass. We're currently looking for
guitar players and nothing is settled but we're actually going to have an
audition with ex-member Brian Eriksen. And if that works out we're back in the
line-up from 2001.
Samir: How come you named the
band "Corpus Mortale", what's the story behind that name?
Martin:
It means "a mortal body" or "a dead body" and as it was death metal that always
was the intented style - why not?! haha... we were 15 years old then and we
didn't know shit. So I guess it was the best we could come up with at the time.
But actually I'm quite happy about it as it suits the lyrics nowadays extremely
well. No love songs or politics here!
Samir: How's your new record
label holding up for you?
Martin:
We'll they're not really our label anymore as we only signed for the debut. But
we have an agreement to play the new stuff for them before we start shopping
around to all the others. So far the conditions he offers are ok, so we just
might re-sign with them. They have good distro and they have all the best tour
connections so they're becoming hard to top for a small band like us.
Samir: After this tour are you
planning on going out somemore or taking a break before summer?

Martin:
Actually we're not on tour right now. We're very busy in the studio finishing
the recording of our second album. Our live plans are pretty simple though.
We're gonna take it slow until fall then we will play some shows in Denmark and
Greece. Maybe a couple in Sweden too. Then in the spring of 2007 we plan to go
on a full European tour as a support act and finally we hope to wreck a couple
of festivals next summer.
Samir: Can you tell me who gave
you the desire to be a bassist and what are your influences? Your favourite
musicians?
Martin:
In the beginning I actually wanted to play the guitar just like everybody else.
And when we got the point of forming our first band I was sort of forced to
handle the bass as there already was two guys playing guitar. I thought it
sucked in the beginning but I soon discovered all the unique aspects of the bass
guitar. Now I'm so happy that things turned out that way because I don't think I
would have got all those good opportunities that I have got as a musician if I
had stuck to the guitar.
My influence when I play is the other guys in the band.
I don't think I've ever tried to copy a certain style or played... But my all
time favourite bass players are: Cliff Burton (no.1), Steve Digiorgio, Chris
Richards, Les Claypool, Shaun Malone, Alex Webster and a shit load of other fine
musicians.
Samir: Can you tell me more
about "Integration"? What is your feeling about it?

Martin:
Well... It's old!! And it sucks!! hahaha... nay.. It was our second demo,
recorded about three year after we formed the band. We're still kind of proud of
it if that is what you mean?! But it's been a long time since we've played those
songs live. I view upon it as the birth of Corpus Mortale - but the music is not
very representative these days as we've progressed so far since then. The cover
is cool though?!?! hahaha
Samir: Did you write all the
songs ?
Martin:
I usually write about 60 percent of the songs. Roar or others has been taking
care of the rest. Usually me or Roar comes up with a part or an unfinished song
and then we jam it together adding everybody's ideas. We're not the fastest in
the world to produce new songs so instead we really try to perfect them along
the way.
Samir: Do you have any favorite
song on the albums?
Martin:
Sure I do... Mass Funeral Pyre is definitely one of the
best songs I've ever written so that's it. There's also some very cool (in my
opinion) songs on the new album. But I do not have a favourite yet as the
recording isn't finished.
Samir: There's always been a
difference between European and American Death metal. what do think about that ?
Martin:
I think it depends on which bands you take into consideration. I mean there's
the Swedish scene which is very caracteristic in it's sound and style. And
there's the Polish scene which is totally different (and far better if you ask
me!) In America there has also been great variety in the metal underground.
Besides I really don't care too much about where things come from. The music is
what's important - and good music comes from all over the world.
Samir: So we will talk about
your new record. What can you say about it ? What do you think about it ?
Martin:
Let us start with the facts. It will be entitled "A New Species of Deviant" and
it is our second album. The album will contain 10 new songs with a total running
time of 45 min.. There will be a couple of guest acts featured, mainly old
members of Corpus Mortale. The style is pretty much the same as on the first
album but this time the songs fit eachother better as they have been written in
2 years instead of 5 years as the previous one. It is yet undetermined which
record company that'll release it. But as stated earlier there's good chance
we'll stay on Neurotic Records. Besides the album we've also got a 7" ep coming
out on Nuclear Winter Rec. called "Seize The Moment of Murder". It contains
three exclusive songs and will hopefully be available at the end of June. Check
out a sample of the title track on myspace.
Samir: Can you explain us the
Name of your last record?
Martin:
You mean "With Lewd Demeanor" right!? I'm a serial killer fanatic and I read a
lot of books on the subject. As most of the lyrics are conserning murder I
figured we had to have a title fitting that concept. I then came across a
statement conserning Ted Bundy. The guy wrote..."Bundy is not a raving
maniacal-looking fellow with lewd demeanor as Henry (Lee Lucas) for instance,
that's what makes him so dangerous!" So it mean something like " with unpleasant
looks and behavior" and thats the exact description of the killers of which I
write about.
Samir: Did you play any cover
tunes in your early days?
Martin:
Not with Corpus Mortale. But me and Roar had a band before which played songs
with Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura and so on. Well, actually we have
played a few in Corpus. In the early days we played Black Forest by Hypocrisy
and later on we played Obituary's Slowly We Rot. Both songs has been recorded
but never released anywhere. We'll probably post them on our web site some day
.
Samir: What was the favorite
band you toured with?
Martin:
That is by no doubt Vader!!! They're also one of my
all-time fave bands... They fucking rule - and they blew us away! hahaha
Samir: How would you define the
music you play?
Martin:
I will like to use the old cliche that people themselves has to decide what they
think we play. If I'm forced to say anything it would be: Death fucking metal...
pure and simple!
Samir: How far would you like
to go with Corpus Mortale ?
Martin:
As far as it can take us!!! We know that we'll never be
Metallica or Slipknot but fuck that. We receive great satisfaction by plating
our shit and that's a reward in itself. But we'll keep on fighting onwards until
we fall off our horses count on that!!!
Samir: What are your future
plans? Future touring projects, next releases etc...
Martin:
The future plans are to finish recording "A New Species of
Deviant". Then we'll play some shows in Denmark, Greece and Sweden. In 2007 we
plan to go on a European tour in the spring and hopefully we'll play a lot of
festivals in the summer. We've also talked to an American booker so with a
little luck we'll might take a short trip to the states.
Samir: Do you have anything you
would like to say to the readers of Zero tolerance webzine
?
Martin:
Keep the flame of metal burning and attend the local shows in your city. Metal
needs your support. Anyone interrested in checking out our shit look at:
www.corpusmortale.com
or look for us at myspace.
Samir: What are, according to
you, the 6 best metal albums of 2006? And the albums of all times?
Martin:
Hmmm... 2006 must be: Bolt Thrower"For Those...", Cannibal
Corpse"Kill", Dismember"The God That...", Dark Throne "The Cult...", Vader"The
Art of War"... All time record list is impossible to make. I have 100 favourite
records which and can't possibly rank. They all great. But my absolute top ultra
mega fave band no.1 is and allways has been CARCASS. They were THE gods of
grind/ death/ and metal in general.
Samir: Tell us about you local
scene please. What are the bands you'd like to recommend us ?
Martin:
The local scene in Copenhagen is quite scrappy so I will
spare you for that and list the best Dk bands instead: Usipian, Exmortem,
Koldborn, Spectral Mortuary, Dawn of Demise, Horned Almighty, Konkhra,
SlowDeathFactory and a few others!
Samir: Any last thoughts?
Martin:
Hmmm... That would be: KILL, RAPE & DEATH....
Samir: Thank you for all of
your time
Martin:
No problem at all, and thanks to you my friend for
supporting Corpus Mortale and for letting me spew vomit all over you!!! Take
care and keep that head banging 666
